analysis of the single camera production "benidorm"
Benidorm is a British sitcom written by Darren Latten and the sitcom is shown on the channel ITV. The TV Series is about the life of holidaymakers and staff at the Solana all-inclusive hotel in Benidorm, Spain. The show first aired on 1 February 2007, and the sitcom has gone on to earn themselves 2 National Television Awards and nominations at the British Comedy Awards.
There are many techniques used within the sitcom ‘Benidorm’. Firstly ill be analyzing the structure of the sitcom. In total, Benidorm is broken up into 7 series, however there are more to come. Within each series, the narrative structure varies, such as some episodes is a linear structure, and others are a non-linear structure. Other techniques the sitcom uses are camera techniques, lighting techniques, and other editing techniques.
SINGLE CAMERA TECHNIQUES USED WITHIN THE SITCOM BENIDORM

Within this shot the single camera is showing, the shot is enabaling you to see all characters within the scene, although at first sighting you may hesitate to think this shot is a long shot as all chracters are being shown, however its not, this is because you are limited to the amount you can see, for instance you are only able to see the top half of the characters.

high key lighting
High key is essentially a high ratio of light being aimed towards the set, usually of an object or person. This effectiveness of high key lighting within films now is for artistic reasons within films. Usually, we tend to see high key lighting within sitcoms and comedies; filmmakers often tend to choose high key lighting when they want an image or story to be cheerful, optimistic or childlike.

Low-key lighting is when the light aimed upon set is very low limited and gives the effect of a dark and eerie feeling. Following on from this, the effect on the audience whilst watching a film with dark colors and the slight use of light colors giving of the unnerving shadows in the background. The most commen use of low key lighting within genres are genres such as the genres, horrors, sci fi, and action.

Here are some screen shots from episode 08 season 2 "The Wedding" showing alot of scenes in which the lighting technique "High key Lighting" is used. Within Benidorm in general, as the genre is a sitcom, the film makers rarely use low key lighting as they dont want to make the audiance have an eerie feel to the sitcom and want to have high key lighting within there set.
Here are screen shots of one scene from the episode 08 from season 2 " The Wedding". This is he only scene within the whole episode where the lighting is "Low Key", and shadows are being shown within the scene.
