Series And Serial

what is a series

what is a serial

A series is a number of regularly broadcast TV programs, these will be based around the same character (or set of Characters). An example of this could be a sitcom or a reality TV program where characters they and give an impression on viewers so they feel like they have a relationship with them which will get them to keep on watching the “series”.

A serial is similar to a series but whereas in a series the same characters have different storylines every episode, a serial is a set of episodes about the same one storyline. This usually means a fewer amount of episodes but can sometimes mean viewers are left after one episode unknowing what happens as the storyline will continue into the next episode, this has the “cliff hanger” effect so makes the viewer want to watch the next episode more.

Single Drama

A single drama is a programme/ film that is broadcasted only the once, and single dramas tend to only be broadcasted on one day; as a result of this single dramas are becoming even more rare by day. A single drama is based around true events and experiences that have happened and those appropriate for television and not cinema based.

My first example of a single drama is going to be “My Murder”. This was released Tuesday 17th April 2012, and was first aired on ITV.

My second example of a single drama is going to be "Stolen", this is a 1 hour and 30 minuets drama based around true events of child trafficking. This was first aired on 3rd July 2011.

Mythird and final example of a single drama is going to be Holy Flying Circus. This is a 90 minute comedy film that was first broadcasted on BBC1 on 26th June 2014.
